Defiant rise of girls in sport

Buffalo City Metro Municipality girls are taking up space and cementing themselves in predominantly male sports. Weekends are no longer the same: communities flock into stadiums to support their favourite teams. Our Metro is a star-studded sporting municipality, producing the likes of Springbok women’s rugby player and Border captain Lusanda Dumke and rugby world champions Lukhanyo Am and Makazole Mapimpi, just to name a few. These stars are a huge inspiration to communities and we see more and more children and teens now taking an interest in rugby, soccer, cricket and boxing, writes Xolelwa Pona.
