Establishing SRHR Forums at Embekweni Primary School
We began by engaging Grade 7 learners at Embekweni Primary School, where our primary goal was to establish an SRHR club. During this session, we introduced the Masimanyane Women’s Rights International (WRI) and bumb’INGOMSO, outlining the essential services we provide to support young people.
SRHR Training at Unathi High School
Following this, we conducted an SRHR training session with Grade 9 learners at Unathi High School, focusing on the theme of power in relationships. We explored how unequal power dynamics between men and women can increase risks related to STIs, HIV/AIDS, and unplanned pregnancies. The learners gained valuable insights into how power imbalances can lead to objectification and contribute to gender-based violence (GBV).
Connecting GBV and Bullying at EL Primary School
We also established SRHR clubs with Grade 7 learners at EL Primary School. In this session, we linked the issues of GBV and bullying, discussing how they manifest in schools and communities. We utilized the BI club manual to facilitate club formation, fostering rapport among the learners while focusing on leadership qualities and the importance of assuming leadership roles.
Overall, October was a month of impactful engagement, education, and empowerment for our youth, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to navigate and advocate for their rights in relationships and beyond.
