Gqeberha, Eastern Cape – 25 March 2025 – City Lads FC is proud to announce the addition of 21-year-old rising star Oyena Scout to their roster. The club has headhunted the young and talented footballer after showcasing impressive skills on the field and a passion for the game that has earned her recognition from some of South Africa's top football figures.
Scout, a Gqeberha native, says she’s had a love for soccer from a very young age. "I think I must have been six when I started playing soccer," she recalls. "I grew up playing street soccer with boys, and that’s where my love for the game really began." Her early exposure to the sport, along with the drive to push herself, laid the foundation for what has become a promising career.
As a young athlete, Scout has been inspired by some of the most successful women in South African football, including Andile Dlamini, the Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies FC and Banyana Banyana goalkeeper. "I look up to Andile Dlamini. She's one of the best goalkeepers in the country, and I learn a lot just by watching her play," says Scout, reflecting on the players who have shaped her own game.

Now, as a member of City Lads FC, Scout is thrilled about the future. "I am very excited and honoured to be part of this team," she expresses. "This move brings so many opportunities for me to develop as a player and compete at the highest level. I can't wait to contribute to the team’s success and grow with City Lads."
Looking ahead, Scout has clear goals for her future. "In the next five years, I see myself playing for Banyana Banyana," she reveals. "I am committed to improving every day and pushing myself to reach that level."
